Hello Reader
The internet has borne witness to myriad trends, but few as intriguing to me as the recent viral question posed to men: "How often do you think about Ancient Rome?" While it's easy to dismiss this as a simple internet oddity or even an emblem of male power fantasies and misogyny, closer examination reveals a complex tapestry of modern anxieties, gender socialization, racial dynamics, and the loneliness inherent in modern masculinity. In this light, the question about Ancient Rome becomes less about the empire itself and more about a search for meaning, belonging, and emotional resonance in a world that often leaves men feeling isolated. Creator of the "How to Talk to Kids about Gender" course
I’m a licensed therapist and author of Raising Trans Kids, supporting caregivers of trans youth. I share resources, reflections, and real-world guidance on identity, parenting, and allyship -through my blog and this newsletter. You’re not alone. Let’s navigate this together.
Hello Reader One of the most meaningful parts of this work is hearing directly from parents themselves—their honesty, their fears, and their deep love for their kids. That’s why I created the Parent Voices series—a space for parents of trans youth to share their experiences anonymously, in their own words. It offers a way to tell their stories openly and honestly, without fear for their safety or the risk of outing their child, and so other parents and caregivers can learn from one another...
Hello Reader Each time policies shift or lifelines for queer and trans people are limited, families are left to do what they’ve always done—find ways to protect, affirm, and love their kids through uncertainty. If you’re a parent, educator, or ally, you already know that trans youth deserve so much more than fear and to be used as political pawns. They deserve care, safety, and hope that doesn’t waver when the headlines do. In this week’s blog, I’ve gathered 25+ trusted, affirming...
Hello Reader Since January 20, scarcely a day has passed without a parent of a transgender child asking me whether it's time to leave the country. My response has stayed mostly the same: everyone’s risk tolerance is different. Everyone’s financial capacity to make that kind of move is different. And I don’t believe we’re in a full state of emergency just yet. The inevitable follow-up question is: How will we know when we are? The truth is, I don’t know. In this new blog post, I reflect on the...
