Hello Reader One year ago today, Raising Trans Kids: What to Expect When You Weren’t Expecting This entered the world. I wrote this book after more than a decade of working with trans kids and their families because I kept seeing the same thing: loving parents with real questions, fears, and uncertainty who needed somewhere to bring all of it. Trans kids shouldn’t have to teach their parents how to support them. I wanted parents to have good information, space to ask hard questions, and support as they learned—without making their child responsible for walking them through that process. A year later, I believe in that mission more than ever. ✨Keep reading for a brand-new way to continue the conversation with me after you finish the book!✨ Look what we did in year one:In its first year, more than 4,300 copies of Raising Trans Kids have been sold. And with your support, we’ve been able to donate hundreds more copies to families, educators, librarians, and clinicians in states where trans young people and their families are facing some of the most hostile climates. That means thousands more people have affirming, evidence-informed information in their hands—and trans kids have more adults around them who are willing to learn. And I want to keep going. Help me get this book into more hands. If you want to give Raising Trans Kids a first birthday present: 📚 Buy or gift a copy to a caregiver who needs it or could be an ally to someone who does! 🏳️⚧️ Put a copy in a Little Free Library or request it at your local library. 🏫 Recommend it to a teacher, therapist, pediatrician, school, book club, organization, or employee resource group. ⭐ Leave a review. If the book has helped you, even a sentence or two can help another parent searching for answers decide that this might be where they start. ☑️ Click to donate. I've been using newsletter sponsorships to raise money for donated copies. All you have to do is click! No purchase or engagement necessary! Something new: RTK ConversationsOver this first year, I’ve also been reminded that sometimes reading the book is just the beginning of the conversation. So I’m starting RTK Conversations: live conversations with me for parents and caregivers who are reading or have read Raising Trans Kids and want a place to bring what comes up along the way. Bring your questions. Bring your uncertainty. Bring the parts you underlined, the things you’re still wrestling with, and the situations that don’t fit neatly on a page. Our first conversation is October 14 from 7–8 PM ET on Zoom. It’s $28 to join, with no membership or ongoing commitment. Come once or come back whenever you need the conversation. Cost should not be what keeps you from joining. A limited number of scholarship spots are available—just reach out if you need one.

Thank you <3One year later, I still believe: Parents don’t need to have all the answers. They need good information, space to ask hard questions, and support as they learn. Trans kids deserve adults willing to do that work. To everyone who has bought, borrowed, gifted, reviewed, recommended, shared, or talked about this book over the past year: thank you for helping it find the people who need it. Here’s to year two. Hello Reader How do you celebrate your child while worrying about their future? It's a question I hear often from parents of LGBTQ+ and trans youth. Concerns about healthcare access, school policies, discrimination, and what comes next are weighing heavily on many families right now. Last weekend, after watching The Dads and Living in Pryde, I found myself reflecting on something I wish more parents could hear: our children are inheriting more than the challenges of this moment. They are...
Hello Reader One of the most meaningful parts of this work is hearing directly from parents themselves—their honesty, their fears, and their deep love for their kids. That’s why I created the Parent Voices series—a space for parents of trans youth to share their experiences anonymously, in their own words. It offers a way to tell their stories openly and honestly, without fear for their safety or the risk of outing their child, and so other parents and caregivers can learn from one another...
Hello Reader Each time policies shift or lifelines for queer and trans people are limited, families are left to do what they’ve always done—find ways to protect, affirm, and love their kids through uncertainty. If you’re a parent, educator, or ally, you already know that trans youth deserve so much more than fear and to be used as political pawns. They deserve care, safety, and hope that doesn’t waver when the headlines do. In this week’s blog, I’ve gathered 25+ trusted, affirming...
